2am is never a good time

OK, so we've been having road works outside for the last few days and our 1920's, steel, single glazed casement windows however authentic aren't too great at keeeping the outside where it should be - outside. Remember the 80's ad for Everest Double Glazing where the proud business owner held up a feather to the window and the audience sat agast as it floated down uninterupted by stiff northern breeze outside - 'Fit The Best - Fit Everest'. That Ad didn't air in South Africa.

Anyway, last night really was the climax, they've now started taking the street lights down (don't ask why) so the electricity company sent in their crack squad of street-light-take-down-men accompanied by what can only be descibed as a Genesis meets Roxette meets Boney M style mix tape playing from their truck and luckly for us turned right up to 11 and right below our 1920's windows.

But here's the insanity, both me and Nicky spent the early hours independantly conceiving of devious ways of foiling our disco loving workmen downstairs albeit whilst being semi concious. It turns out in the morning that my SAS style planned opperation to go down 9 floors onto the street and jab the radio 'Hitchcok style' with a 12 inch screwdriver was met with an equally cunning plan from Miss Rogers to, again go down 9 floors in pyjamas, but this time steal the keys to the truck and run away with them. Run away the where? Who knows!

Thank god we don't work nights is some wildly responsible job.

Cars

Completely off topic, but our weekend seeing the racing got me thinking about cars, and in particulaar our little 205 GTi which Jono and Roe are currently taking good care of.. Even though I'm not going to be driving it for the next 4 months i'm compiling a list a things that need to get it done TLC wise:

• Cambelt
• Oil and Filer
• New HT Leads, Ditributor Cap
• The sticky brakes looked at
• Knocking CV joint replaced
• K&N Filters

Cars are money pits!

More Surfing

Ok, I admit it, surfing's hard. It's not the actually surfing bit, which incidentally I can't quite master, but the swimming out through the breaking waves and the salt water, god the salt water, I hate salt water... Also, the feeling the day after wher you feel like you've fallen out of a tree. I now feel like I fell out of a tree yesterday.

Kilarni Race Track offers some pretty awesome racing. No Moet, no Caviar and not much safety protection but plenty of high octane fun.

Hello there folks... managed to wrestle the computer away from Dave, so there's mutiny on the Cape and the guests have taken over the ship ;-)

Carrie & I are staying till saturday and we really don't want to leave. Our hosts have been extra splendid and the days have been fun packed and non-stop.

here's my top moments so far:

1. 'No-limits' desert quad biking- basically racing along with Ostrich and Wilderbeasts at 40 miles per hour. None of us can actually sit up straight now though.

2. Evening Safari: with baby Hippo's, Rhinos and a strange Antelope like beast, which has memory loss. (apparently, Lions surprise them so they bolt off in all directions, but soon forget what's chasing them and stand still, so the lion gets an easy meaty feast without really trying...genius)

3. The Cape Grace Hotel and Bascule Whisky Bar: Ok- admittedly I did some research before we came over and demanded we try this place out. It was aaaaaamazing. A gormet 3-course meal with some terrific local wine (Slaley Shiraz) for less than £100 for the four of us. The Waiter (Taras) also bought out 4 other great wines for us to sample free of charge. Underneath the restuarant is the Bascule Whisky bar which has 641 different bottles to try. (cue images of small child in a sweet shop :-P ) Such was the experience that Dave has suggested i start a whisky blog...challenge accepted!!

4. Table Mountain trip: probably the best views of this amazing city you're ever likely to see.

5. Dune jumping at Noord Hoek Beach: A new olympic sport has been born!!
